‘Learning from Survivors of Rape and Sexual Violence – Rape Crisis Statistics 2025’ draws on data from our seven member Rape Crisis Centres across Ireland, collected securely and confidentially through Mosaic, our award-winning data collection system. It transforms the experiences of thousands of survivors into a powerful evidence base, giving them a voice in public debate and policy, whether or not they have ever spoken out publicly.

  • 15,134 Helpline contacts – up 15.4% from 2024
  • 15,807 Appointments scheduled for counselling and support – up 6.9% from 2024
  • 1,423 People engaged in counselling and support – up 7.0% from 2024
  • 96.3% of perpetrators were men or boys
  • 81.8% of perpetrators were known to the survivor
  • 59.8% of survivors first experienced sexual violence in childhood, yet most did not access counselling until adulthood
  • 54.5% more men and boys accessed counselling in 2025 compared to 2018
  • 40.5% of incidents were reported to Gardaí or other formal authority (34.3% when the survivor is male)
  • 40.4% more clients were seen in 2025 than in 2018
  • 23.7% of survivors waited more than 10 years before disclosing
  • 18.8% of survivors experienced multiple incidents of sexual violence in their lifetime
  • 11.3% of survivors had not disclosed to a trusted person before accessing services

Survivors facing compounded barriers to safety, reporting or service access in 2025

  • 32.3% of survivors had 1 or more characteristics associated with compounded barriers
  • 14.7% of survivors had 2 or more characteristics associated with compounded barriers
  • 9.7% of survivors identified as having a disability – 48% reported living with a chronic illness, 25% physical or mobility disability,
  • 20% learning or intellectual disability, and 7% hearing or visual impairment
  • 7.1% of survivors identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual or another minoritised sexual orientation
  • 26.7% of survivors whose abuse first occurred between the ages of 45 and 64 identified as having a disability
  • 35.7% of incidents experienced by survivors facing compounded barriers were reported to a formal authority
  • 11.9% of LGB survivors experienced abuse spanning both childhood and adulthood – compared to 9.6% overall (suggesting sustained exposure to risk over time)
  • 19.2% faced compounded barriers related to their legal status in Ireland (with 8.4% living in an IPAS centre – nearly three times the number in 2022)
  • 14.0% faced compounded barriers related to ethnicity – 10.5% of survivors identifying as Black or Black Irish, 2.8% other ethnic backgrounds, and 0.7% Irish Traveller or Roma
  • 37.4% of survivors aged 25–44 at the time of abuse were not Irish citizens (nearly double the rate across all survivors: 19.2%)
  • 14.0% of survivors facing 2 or more compounded barriers reported to Gardaí (less than half the rate of the overall survivor population: 32.8%)
  • 89.2% of survivors facing compounded barriers related to ethnicity had at least one additional compounded barrier
